Celtic appear to be wasting no time in preparing the squad for next season’s 10-in-a-row challenge, as they announced the club’s fourth exit in the last few week.

Next season is clearly a special one for Celtic as they have the chance to create history by winning a tenth straight Scottish league title – a feat that has never been achieved before. For that reason, they will try to provide the best possible squad to Neil Lennon. And clearing out some of the deadwood has already begun before the club can bring in fresh faces.

Earlier in the week it was announced that Eboue Kouassi had moved to Belgian side Genk after it became clear that he had no future at Parkhead. Calvin Miller followed suit soon as well.

Yesterday, Jonny Hayes also posted an emotional message to the Celtic fans, bidding them farewell after his contract ran out. And the club have now announced that they will not be taking the one-year option in Jozo Simunovic’s contract either, meaning he will follow Hayes out the exit door.

On Celtic’s official website, the club announced:

"CELTIC Football Club today offered sincere best wishes to Jozo Simunovic and Jonny Hayes as it was announced they will be leaving the club. The club has decided.not to take a further year-long option in relation to Jozo’s contract, and Jonny’s Celtic contract finishes at the end of this month."

Simunovic had joined the club back in 2015, making 125 appearances for The Hoops. But he had lost his place in the team, largely in part due to the continuous injuries that he had suffered over the last few years. And as his performances continued on a downward spiral, his exit was imminent.

The fans have not taken as well to Hayes’ exit though as he was still an important squad player last season. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the club go about replacing him.
