The Celtic captain took it upon himself to let Steven Gerrard, Rangers and the Ibrox fans know what he thinks about their title claims since the season was suspended.

Scott Brown has just come out and said something that has been on every Celtic fan’s mind over the last couple of months. All of us have had enough of Rangers fans pretending that they had a genuine chance of catching up with Celtic if all the league games were played out.

In fact, there was a better chance that they would have slipped to third considering the form that they had showcased since returning from the winter break. When the season was suspended, the Rangers were 13 points behind Celtic in the league, out of the Scottish Cup having been knocked out by bottom-placed Hearts and with a 3-1 deficit to overcome against Bayer Leverkusen in the second round of their Europa League tie.

Or in other words, they were headed for another trophyless season. Thus, it is incredible that they feel that their calls to get the season declared ‘null and void’ are not only valid but also justified. They can kiss those hopes goodbye though after Paris Saint-Germain were declared Ligue 1 champions earlier because of a 12 point lead over second placed Marseille.

And now Scott Brown has come out to give them a dose of the reality of their situation. As reported by Daily Record, speaking on PLZ Soccer, the Celtic captain said:

"“I think their manager and everyone understood that they were never going to catch us.“They said it in the press themselves – the only chance they had to win was the Scottish Cup so they pretty much admitted defeat already.“For us it was all about going to Dubai and understanding that we lost that game to Rangers at the end of December but we had to make sure we put things right and we managed to do that.”"

It is hard not to feel that Rangers board, manager and fans have used the suspension of the season as an excuse to hide their own failures this season. Obviously they are gonna claim that anything could have happened if all 38 games were played. But the fact of the matter is that Celtic had dropped just 10 points in the first 30 games of the season and needed to drop the same number of points in the last 8 if they had to have any chance of catching up.

Maybe looking at themselves in the mirror might be a good idea for Steven Gerrard’s side instead of always pining the blame of their failures on others.
