One Celtic legend is shockingly backing Rangers fight with the Scottish Professional Football League and their “independent” investigation earlier this month.
Earlier this month, Rangers launched a claim that the SPFL was “bullying” and being “coercive” towards clubs in how to vote for a resolution that Rangers put forward to help draw a conclusion to the season. Celtic has largely remained out of this fight.
Hwoever, the SPFL quickly shot it down, and that is when Rangers released a statement accusing the governing body of bullying. From there, plenty of drama ensued, and the SPFL launched an “independent” investigation. Those findings were made public, but didn’t really answer any questions.
This all has prompted Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish to come to the Ibrox club’s defence. Dalglish believes that these claims are serious enough and warrant an actual investigation. Just because it was Rangers making the complaint does not mean the SPFL is free from corruption. Rather, the SPFL is looked at by most clubs with some sort of hesitancy, the Hoops included.
Dalglish goes more in depth with his feelings on the matter in the Sunday Post:
"“The SPFL deserve to be commended for making public their findings from their inquiry. That said, it left more questions than answers.“Surely the investigation should have been more wide-ranging? The claims made by Rangers of “bullying and coercing” don’t appear to have been investigated.“It’s not just about the timescale of the Dundee vote changing from No to Yes. That in itself doesn’t sit right with me.“But I’m also interested in why they changed their vote, and who they had conversations with in the five-day period between the deadline and the Dens Park club changing the way they would vote.“The SPFL needs to cast its net wider. Rangers want a more in-depth inquiry, and want an independent body to look at it all.“They are quite right to ask for this as their claims of bullying and coercing don’t appear to have been investigated. But will they get it?”"
There is a level of understanding that these claims should be fully and independently investigated. If the SPFL are allowed to conduct themselves, and thus the actions and futures of clubs, then they must be held accountable.
This is all a money game on both sides. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that the game of football in Scotland be held to a certain level of integrity, especially during this difficult economic times. Scotland cannot afford to be embarrassed on the global stage due to the possible corrupt actions of its governing body.
