Former Celtic star Stuart Armstrong reveals why he decided to leave the Scottish Premiership League champions for Southampton in 2018.

Former Celtic star and midfielder Stuart Armstrong left Celtic for Southampton in a  £7 million move during the 2018 summer transfer window. Stuart Armstrong performed very well during his two seasons with the Hoops.

In 144 appearances for the Hoops the Scottish national scored 28 goals and added another 25 assists. Those types of numbers and performances afforded him the opportunity at the chance to play in the top flight of English football in the English Premiership League.

While many Celtic fans harbour some harsh feelings to players who move on from the club to play in England, there is some added reputation that Celtic acquires every time is signs, develops, and eventually transfers a player to the English Premiership League.

That is exactly what happened with  Stuart Armstrong, who ended up fulfilling his dream of playing in the EPL. Speaking to the Daily Record, Stuart Armstrong reveals why he left Celtic and what he discovered about the club after leaving:

"“It was very exciting, but I don’t think I realised just how big the club is, what it means to fans, the passion, the noise of the stadium.“I’ve got friends who play for European clubs who say the atmosphere at Celtic Park is still the best they’ve experienced.“The decision to leave was a tough one, but if I didn’t pursue my dream to reach the Premier League, then I’d have regretted it.“When Southampton were interested, the aura of the club, how they play, it really appealed to me.”"

It seems that every player that leaves Celtic ends up always having love for the club. Players should never be criticized for trying to fulfill their lifelong dreams, just like every other person on planet Earth. The best thing is when players favourably recall their Hoops experience on the big stage.

Stuart Armstrong played a part in helping the club accomplish its goals. In return, the club played a part in helping the player accomplish his lifelong dream.
