Football Insider has revealed that a former English Premier League superstar is open to the idea of making a move to Celtic.

Football Insider spoke with Kevin Phillips about a former superstar who would be open to moving to Scotland to play for Celtic if that opportunity was afforded to him. The player in question is Charlie Austin, the current striker for West Brom.

Charlie Austin has been a productive player, as highlighted by his 2014/15 season with Queen Park Rangers in which he scored 18 league goals. His production has dipped in recent years as the 30-year old striker has moved on. However, his addition to the Hoops could help alleviate the potential hole that would be made if Odsonne Edouard were to see his exit.

Charlie Austin would also provide another veteran presence in the dressing room, which would go a long way with such a young club. It remains to be seen if this potential move has any real legs on it.

Speaking with Football Insider, Kevin Phillips talked about the potential move:

"“Playing in Celtic’s side you are going to get more chances and you will be winning games week in, week out.“Charlie can score, he is a goalscorer. He is an old-fashioned goalscorer.“Jermain is top-class but even he, at 37, is scoring for fun up there.“I think it would be a good move for Charlie, to go and be successful and challenge for and win titles, play European football – it would be hard to turn down. I think it could be a move for him.”"

Many Celtic fans could get riled up about such a potential move due to cost, age, and the idea of him being a short-term replacement for the beloved Odsonne Edouard. However, it is likely that Charlie Austin would not demand, nor command a huge price tag.

The potential for production and leadership is a shot worth taking. Not to mention that the brand power from a former superstar in the twilight of his career would bring in some extra cash for the club. It is an avenue worth pursuing.
