The Rangers legend has weighed in on the Premiership debate and took a shot at Celtic’s ten-in-a-row credentials if they are handed the title by the SPFL.
It looks like that the SPFL will have to conclude the season as things stand and hand Celtic the Premiership title if things don’t improve in the near future. And with cases going up at an alarming rate around the globe, it is expected to take months before things return to return. Thus, that might be the route that the governing body is forced into taking.
Obviously, the situation is not ideal for anyone involved. Celtic fans would have hoped to see their side lift the historic nine-in-a-row on the pitch instead of just being declared champions as a result of the monstrous 13 point lead that they have over the Rangers.
Rest assured, the Rangers fans will milk this for all it is worth and then some more. While they had given up all hope of catching up and were calling for Gerrard’s sacking, the suspension of the suspension of the season has magically rejuvenated their belief in their team. If Celtic are crowned champions, they will claim it to be ‘tainted’ title.
And it appears that Ally McCoist has also thrown shade at the legitimacy of Celtic’s title and the consequences it could have on a potential ten-in-a-row. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Rangers legend said:
"“I would be telling you a lie if I didn’t say it wasn’t a disappointment or a real concern or a worry.“But this league is bizarre and you know what it’s like, particularly in Scotland, it’s worse than anywhere else.“Because there will be an element, if Celtic are given the title, they’ll feel it’s unfair and unjust.“But like I’ve said, you’re not going to please everybody. Nobody is going to be pleased with some of the decisions that have to be made.“I’d not like to be in the shoes of the people that have got to make these decisions. Whether Celtic are given the title or not, whether Liverpool are given the title or not, it remains to be seen.“But in terms of 10 in a row, of course it’s a concern. I’d be lying to you if I said it wouldn’t be.”"
Even Celtic fans would have liked for all the games to have been played but we are living in extraordinary times right now. And if it takes for the SPFL to declare the Hoops as champions, then it is what it is. It does not take away anything from the legitimacy of the title considering the mammoth lead that they had at the top of the table. McCoist is just trying to play the same tune as his former club here and push that narrative.
And the Rangers should be the last club to call anyone’s titles ‘tainted’. We all know about their past, don’t we?
