Ex-Leeds striker and current pundit Noel Whelan has gone on the record to why he thinks Celtic will ultimately end up selling Odsonne Edouard.

Rumours surrounding Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard and his possible exit have been swirling ever since the superstar burst onto the scene. Edouard has quickly solidified himself as the best striker in Scotland, and is emerging as a promising player to compete at the upper echelons of European football.

Arsenal along with other top-flight European clubs have been kicking the tires on Odsone Edouard, and as such Celtic has put a £35 million price tag on him.

Noel Whelan believes that this is the exact reason why Celtic will sell him: money. Ok, that seems obvious, sure. But with that extra cash influx, the Hoops can invest it elsewhere, say in Fraser Forster as Whelan alludes to.

Whelan spoke with Football Insider about Edouard and what he expects could happen with the club and the strike in the coming weeks:

"“It is a lot of money for Celtic.“But, if they sell Edouard for big money then there is an opportunity to get the goalkeeper (Fraser Forster) and another striker.“Their scouting network is going to have to get straight to work but they have always been good with their recruitment.”"

The reality of the situation is that Edouard will move on to play for one of the larger clubs in Europe. If he can stick around to help win 10-in-a-row, then that would be the best case scenario. However, his transfer fee could go to help sign some other fan favourites to permanent deals.

The idea of losing Edouard is hard, but what his departure could bring to the club is of equal value. Celtic has a penchant for developing young players into superstars. This move would help to build the next wave of talent the club can ride on.
