Celtic summer signing admits that his Hoops career is over
By Kade Kistner
One Celtic summer signing has recently admitted and shed some light on his time with the Hoops and admits his time with the club may be over.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon brought in a promising signing during last summer’s transfer window. That signing, right-back Moritz Bauer, was supposed to play a pivotal role in the Hoops backline. However, Jeremie Frimpong quickly became Neil Lennon’s “go to” guy after Hatem Abd Elhamed continued to go down over the course of the season with multiple injuries.
Moritz Bauer understands that his Celtic career is likely over as he will head by to English-side Stoke City after the season. His six starts for the Hoops were lackluster, and it had to be difficult watching a 19-year old Frimpong continually get his name called for starts. Bauer at 28-years old was supposed to be the talented veteran who could provide starts in the case that Hatem Abd Elhamed could not.
While Bauer was professional describing his experiences at Celtic, you can definitely tell there is some distress about his time. He is clearly looking forward to being a key contributor again for Stoke next season.
Here are Bauer’s comments as reported by the Daily Record:
"“I don’t want the season to end. It was an exciting experience for me at Celtic, even if it went bitterly for me.“Losing my place wasn’t down to my performances.“I’m 28, only on loan from Stoke and relatively expensive.“I understand what happened because Celtic are building the experience of a younger player.“When the new season starts at Stoke, I now have the chance to get people talking again about me with my performances.“I certainly dream of playing for Austria again.”"
These are some of the more honest responses we have seen from players when their time at a club has not quite gone their way. It makes sense that Lennon would want to get Frimpong playing time. At 19-years old, his electricity and style of play can still be developed. Bauer’s talents and style are already set in stone.
We wish Bauer all the best in his future career endeavours. He certainly has the capability to be a significant game changer in a club’s backline.
