With it looking likely that Celtic will be coronated as Champions of Scotland once again, Chris Sutton has made a huge claim about what will go down as nine-in-a-row.

After the season was forced into suspension due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus. And it looks like it will have to be concluded as things stand right now as it is unlikely that things will return to normal anytime soon. Thus, it might be the only way left to bring this season to a close and help clubs struggling for money during this tough times to stay afloat.

Earlier, a motion was passed by the SPFL to conclude the three lower Scottish leagues so that the prize money can be paid out after a majority of the clubs voted in facour of it. Obviously, there has been a lot of controversy regarding the issue, raised especially by those across Glasgow.

For some reason, Rangers have pushed the notion that they are the ones who are the victims in this situation. Although we would like to take this opportunity to remind everybody that they are 13 points behind Celtic in the Premiership table as things stand. And judging by the form that they showcased following the winter break, they would have probably ended up more than 20 points behind the Hoops if the season could have been finished.

In reality it is Celtic who are the real victims in this situation. And the point was raised by Chris Sutton in his column in the Daily Record:

"“Neil Lennon’s squad will be utterly devastated they didn’t get the chance to finish off their excellent work.“They had taken on the Rangers challenge from the turn of the year and had dismissed it.“Lennon’s team will now have to listen to silly critics say they didn’t really win the title properly when, if the games hadn’t stopped, they were going to absolutely canter it.“Celtic’s players have been denied a chance to seal the deal in style and have also lost their chance to secure a quadruple treble.“They might win it later in the year, but they are still the ones with far more to miss out on than anyone at Rangers.“If I was (Steven) Gerrard I would be quite happy at it ending now. He knew it was over, anyway.“And if the final nine games of their season had gone the same way as the other 10 during 2020 for him he could have been in serious trouble saving his credibility. Finishing this season early might just do Gerrard a big favour.”"

The reality of the matter is that if Celtic are indeed awared the title, this is the one that will go down as nine-in-a-row. And every fan would have liked to celebrate that achievement on the pitch. But it is what it is. The Hoops deserve this title, whether they have to play the last 8 league games or are just declared as champions now.
