The Rangers continue to embarrass themselves, now threatening legal action against the SPFL after they concluded the three lower leagues of Scottish football.

If fear had a scent, you could probably smell it all over Ibrox at this moment. After the league was suspended due to the spread of the coronavirus, the Rangers have decided to push the narrative that they had a genuine chance to win the Premiership title this season.

This coming from a club who were 13 points behind Celtic with just 8 games left to be played. A club that has lost twice to bottom-placed Hearts since their return from the winter break. A club who must have been genuinely considering sacking their manager before the season had to be called off as they were headed for another trophyless campaign.

In many ways, declaring the season over at this point of time gives them a chance to save face. Rest assured, they will forever call this a ‘tainted title’ despite the fact that they had virtually no chance of catching up. Instead it is the Celtic fans who should be calling for all the games to be played. Because all of them would like to see the club lift the historic nine-in-a-row on the pitch.

But some things are beyond our control now. It might be best for everybody involved to conclude the season now in times of financial strain where clubs need the prize money to stay afloat. And that is the opinion of the majority of the clubs in the country, who voted in favour of the motion to bring an end to the three lower leagues as things stand.

Yet, Rangers have decided to threaten legal action against the SPFL. As reported by RTE, the club’s statement reads:

"“No fair minded person can take the outcome of this vote seriously. The SPFL has conducted a process which has been misleading and deeply flawed.“The anger of our fans is understood and shared by our board, who continue to examine all legal options available.“The SPFL appear to have acknowledged the need for an internal investigation – but only an independent investigation will provide satisfactory, credible answers.“We repeat our call for the immediate suspension of Neil Doncaster and Rod McKenzie pending the outcome of the independent investigation.”"

Even Partick Thistle, who might be most affected because of this have decided against taking any legal action. But Rangers continue to call for investigations and executives to be suspended although a majority of the clubs clearly voted in favour of the motion to conclude the leagues. Embarrassing.
