Dundee completed a sensational U-turn in the SPFL vote today, ending all Ibrox hopes of seeing the season get declared null and void.

A moment of silence for the Rangers supporters who were hoping that they would manage to save face somehow by getting the season cancelled. But those hopes are down the drain now after Dundee voted ‘yes’ to SPFL’s proposal to bring the Championship, League One and League Two to an immediate close. With the Premiership expected to follow suit soon, it must be a sad day at Ibrox.

Dundee were originally expected to be against the motion, similar to the likes of Rangers and Hearts. But according to the Daily Record, they had a change of heart and have now decided to vote in favour of the motion. And since they had the decisive vote, it means that the three lower leagues will now be declared complete.

Originally, Dundee had claimed that they would vote ‘no’ and push for a reconstruction of the leagues instead as getting relegated would be fair on the teams. The fact that rivals Dundee United were top of the table might have had a part to play in that as well though. But then they decided to withdraw their vote after putting it in on Friday. And now they have completed a sensational U-turn.

The Ibrox club can complain all they want but it can only be a matter of time before the Premiership takes the same step as well. With the coronavirus cases growing at an alarming rate all over the world, it does not look like things will be back to normal anytime soon.

Obviously Celtic fans would have liked for the season to be completed on the pitch so that a sold out Parkhead could see the Hoops lift the historic nine-in-a-row. But that does not seem like a logical expectation to have at this point of time.
