The SPFL has called an emergency meeting to help mitigate the crisis that has arisen from a nightmare resolution vote by the clubs.
A resolution was proposed for clubs to vote on that would bring an end to the lower leagues, while also creating a path forward for the Scottish Premiership League to find its logical conclusion. The resolution needs all clubs to agree to the terms or the resolution will not be able to pass.
Dundee FC has been a lone holdout on the resolution, which makes sense considering they have the most to lose in the lower leagues. Dundee was poised for a promotion after the season, and with the resolution, it remains possible that they would not get that promotion.
Dundee would stand to potentially lose more money by not getting a promotion to the Premiership than losing revenue due to the suspension caused by the novel coronavirus. Again, similar to Rangers, a single club is putting their own interests above the collective group.
While actions like that are not surprising, in novel times like these, novel actions must be taken. By showing good faith, Dundee and Rangers could come out looking like logical, and amenable clubs after this entire crisis.
According to the Daily Record, the SPFL will soon host a crisis meeting over the horrible failed resolution to hopefully find a way forward:
"“Record Sport understands the SPFL board will hold an emergency meeting – most probably within the next 24 hours – to discuss a range of new emergency measures following the dramatic events on Friday night which have plunged Scottish football into chaos.”"
There are new reports that are coming out that Dundee could be making a U-turn in their decision to not vote on the resolution. This would come as a big shock, and would represent putting the collective whole ahead of themselves.
We will keep you updated as this drama unfolds.
