Celtic are on the verge of announcing new chief scout
Celtic are set to appoint a new chief scout who has previous experience of working for the likes of Everton and Leicester City.
There is to be a shake up as a new Head Scout, despite the coronavirus, because management at Celtic want to be in fighting shape once football returns. The responsibility falls to Gary Penrice, per the SunSport.
Penrice played for Bristol Rovers, Watford, Aston Villa and Queens Park Rangers as a striker between the years 1984 and 2000.
After his retirement from the pitch he worked with Leicester, Stoke, and Everton across a wide variety of managerial and scouting positions. He has most recently been involved with QPR, he played for the club from 1991 to 1995 and returned as a recruitment consultant in May 2017. He set up a new recruitment process for QPR before parting ways in December 2019.
The 56-year-old has been brought in by Nicky Hammond, who played alongside Penrice at Bristol Rovers in the late eighties, to make an impression on the players. The team has been receiving a behind the scenes face lift for some time and the cancellation of sport due the coronavirus has not stopped preparations. Former Arsenal analyst Jay Lefevre will also be brought in to oversee scouting operations.
Hammond has been working for the last eight months without a head scout, after Lee Congerton left to join Brendan Rodgers.
The appearance of Penrice is a good sign of things to come as Celtic gear up for a return to form.
How do you think Gary Penrice will fair at his new home?
