‘Ban them’ – Angry Celtic fans hit out at newspaper
Celtic fans were not too thrilled with the newspaper as they apologised to the club following a case of misrepresentation.
At this point of time, no Celtic fan should be surprised that the mainstream media has misrepresented the club. In fact it has been happening over many years now and has only been increasing with time. Surprisingly though, the club did manage to get an apology out of them this time around.
The Herald had recently published an article claiming football had lost its soul after the club had furloughed its non-playing stuff. This is nothing out of the ordinary though as a number of major organisations have taken similar measures and the Hoops had in fact committed to pay them their full wages. Yet the newspaper saw it fit to paint them in a completely negative light.
The club appear to have taken strict action this time as the newspaper have sent them an apology regarding the matter. It was posted on the official Celtic FC website earlier:
"“On our front page promotion for a column on Saturday, we stated ‘Celtic cutting non-playing staff’s money shows how far football has lost its soul’.“We are happy to clarify that Celtic have not cut any non-playing staff’s money. All staff on the Government’s job retention scheme are having their salaries paid in full by Celtic. We apologise to Celtic for our error.”"
Many Celtic fans are not just happy with an apology though and want them to be banned from all club-related events altogether. They took to Twitter earlier to vent their frustrations and to be honest, nobody can blame them. Hopefully we get to see the apology on The Herald’s front page, the same place where they put the original piece.
The Scottish mainstream media always seems to be looking for excuses to drag the club’s name through the mud. And when there are not any, they tend to just conjure them out of them. Come to think of it, it would not be such a bad idea if they did take more severe steps against such newspapers in the future.
