UEFA has now back tracked on their original stance that all domestic leagues should have their seasons wrapped up by June 30th.
UEFA had previously sent out guidance to all clubs and leagues to try and have their domestic seasons wrapped up by June 30th. The thought at the time is that the global pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus would have been sorted out to the point where a path forward would have presented itself.
Instead, the return of any sports, anywhere in the world seems unlikely for the next few months, at the least. As such, UEFA has now revised their guidance for leagues across Europe to try and finish up or complete their domestic leagues by August 3rd.
As 67 Hail Hail points out, if the Scottish Premiership League were to adhere to these updated guidelines from UEFA then matches would have to begin in late June or early July. With lock downs across the globe, it seems unlikely that this deadline will be met.
Health and safety of players will always be paramount to any type of sport being played for any reason. UEFA has to continue to extend the deadline for season completions until it is no longer feasible.
Those deadlines have already been changed from April, to June and now to August. It seems this will likely be the last of kicking the can down the road. After that, UEFA will likely need to make the decision as to how domestic champions will be crowned so that European competition can be sorted for the following season.
