Rangers legend Ally McCoist had no clue that he was being set up as he fell prey to a hilarious April Fools prank related to Celtic.

With everything that is going on around the world at the moment, April Fools Day was not the same as other years. There were not as many pranks this time around. But fortunately we managed to come out with a brilliant one when Darren Bent and Laura Wood pranked Ally McCoist this morning on TalkSport. And the fact that it involved Celtic just makes it even better.

They came up with a story that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was headed to Parkhead to don the Hoop of Celtics. According to the story, the Swede was apparently inspired by Henrik Larsson to do so. Now let’s just say that the transfer window would have been months away under normal circumstances. With everything involving the coronavirus, who knows when the market will reopen.

Yet McCoist failed to realize that he was being set up and it appears that he was not aware of the date either. He first tried to make sense of the move by bringing up a number of Swedish players who had played in Scotland in the past. And he believed that it could have inspired Zlatan to ply his trade in Scotland.

As reported by Daily Record, he said:

"“Going back to when I first signed for Rangers and we had Robert Prytz playing for us, played in a European Cup Final with Malmo against Forest. Of course you’ve got Jonas Thern, Henrik (Larsson), (Johan) Mjallby was a great player for Celtic as well.“I don’t know if there’s a little bit of that when he was growing that he saw some of the Swedish players playing in Scotland. Clearly he has had an absolutely outrageous career.”"

McCoist would certainly been upset by the news that someone like Zlatan was moving to Celtic. But he tried to play it off by claiming how it was going to be good for Scottish football:

"“Truthfully, I think it would be great. With Scottish football, we need every boost we can get at this moment in time so I think in terms of the game, what a profile.“Obviously with Steven Gerrard coming up to Rangers, that gave Scottish football an extra profile. It’s another level again if Ibrahimovic came to Celtic and truthfully, I think it would be fantastic.”"

Finally Bent and Wood decided to let McCoist in on the secret. But by then McCoist had already made a spectacular April Fool out of himself. And the fact that he fell for such a ridiculous prank is absolutely hilarious.
