Rangers have been hit with three different bans by UEFA for the antics of their fans at Ibrox in two different Europa League games.

Celtic fans are no strangers to being handed hefty fines by UEFA. Sometimes they have been deserved, sometimes they were absolutely ridiculous. Rangers fans have always claimed them to be genuine reasons for being fined. So it is fun to see the shoe on the other foot for a change.

Rangers have been hit with three fines by the European governing body. The total will amount to about €20,000. And in hard times like these, especially for the Ibrox club that are currently struggling for every penny that they can in order to stay afloat, can they afford it. As small as it might seem for a club paying more than that to multiple players. They are hanging by shoe-strings at this point.

They will have to pay €10,000 for a fan invasion during their 3-2 win over Braga. And they’ll have to cough up another €5,250 for fireworks being thrown on to the pitch in the same game.

But that is not the end of their issues. A glass bottle was thrown onto the Ibrox pitch as well, this time in the 3-1 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen at home that put them on the brink of exit from the competition before the season had to be suspended due to the global outbreak of the coronavirus.

Now those are genuine reasons for being fined. Hopefully the Rangers are having as much fun now praising UEFA as they were having a couple of months back at the expense of Celtic. Fortunately, they have nothing to complain about when it’s their turn.

Unfortunately for the Hoops, they were on the governing body’s bad books again.
