UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin’s recent admission regarding their future plans for this season might be bad news for Celtic.

A number of conflicting reports have come out in the last week or so with regards to what is the fate of the league titles all over Europe. As things stand right now, Celtic are 13 points ahead of the second-placed Rangers in the Premiership table. And before football has to be suspended because of the global outbreak of the coronavirus.

While it would have taken a miracle for Steven Gerrard’s side to turn the season around, this suspension has given the Rangers fans an excuse to call for the situation to be declared ‘null and void’ unless all 38 games are played. At the end of the day, that looks like their only hope to stop nine-in-a-row.

Over past weeks a number of rumours have spread. Some have claimed that all league leaders where set to be awarded the trophy if football did not resume in the next few weeks. Others have claimed that the league was indeed set to be cancelled with no hope of football being played any time soon.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin addressed all the rumours recently, shedding some light on the situation. Speaking with Daily Mail, he said:

"“I’ve seen and heard some again fake news that UEFA will advise leagues to finish the championships now and decide that the winners are the ones who are number one now.“I can say that it’s not true. Our goal is to finish the leagues and we didn’t recommend anything like that to any association or league.”"

Ultimately, UEFA revealed yesterday that they were planning to complete all domestic and European competitions by 30th June, if the coronavirus situation improves. And we speak for every Celtic fan when we say that we would prefer that all 38 league games are played, before lifting a record-equaling ninth straight league title.
