Rangers’ latest statement proves that they have given up all hopes of catching Celtic and are now looking for ways to get the season cancelled.

Rangers are somehow to looking to get the season cancelled at this point of time. After falling 13 points behind Celtic with just 8 games left to be played in the league, it would have taken a miracle for Steven Gerrard’s side to come anywhere near the Hoops, forget overtaking them.

The current circumstances seem to have given them an excuse though to pretend that they could have turned things around. And after a week of seeing their fans push the ‘null and void’ agenda, it looks like the club is taking the same stance on the situation as well.

They somehow decided to bring up the matter in their statement updating their supporters about the coronavirus situation. Of course, in the beginning they assert how seriously they are taking the situation. But then they end up contradicting themselves with their claims regarding the fate of the Premiership season.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Rangers’ statement reads:

"“I reiterate Steven Gerrard’s comments this morning that football is secondary to the health and well-being of the citizens of the United Kingdom. Life is precious and as a society, we must endeavour to do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable in our community. As a club, we will continue to follow government guidelines and advice relating to the health and safety of all members of staff.“It is our firm view that this season’s league competition (2019/20) is only complete when all 38 games are played by all teams.“For the avoidance of doubt, we believe that final standings can only be confirmed when all games have been completed, not before. Any attempt to finish the season with a significant amount of games still to play, impacts upon the integrity of sport in Scotland.“Furthermore, we are strongly opposed to playing games behind closed doors. Rangers fans have stuck by our club in the darkest of times. Their loyalty will not be forgotten and they will not be left behind.”"

There are two things that the Glasgow side seem to be intent on. Firstly, they want all the 38 games to be played in order for the season to be considered as complete. And that is understandable, since they are the chasing pack and would like to think that they can still pull the title race back in their favour.

But their second demand seems to suggest that they have no actual interest in the title race anymore and mentally they have given up and are just looking for a way out. Yes, they want the games to be in front of the fans and not behind closed doors.

How does it make sense for them to demand that games be played in front of thousands of fans mere months after (hopefully) people were being advised to lock themselves inside their own homes?

Sounds like just an excuse if you ask us. Just our humble opinion!
