Celtic fans have hit out at the former Rangers star after a prediction that he had made earlier in the season came back to haunt him on Saturday.
Celtic’s 5-0 win over St Mirren at Parkhead on Saturday was a lesson for every pundit across the country on why not to completely write a player off.
After several underwhelming seasons, Leigh Griffiths is starting to look like something resembling his old self. Against St Mirren, the Scot international scored a hat-trick with all three of them showing different facets of his game.
The first one showed the instincts of a true goalscorer, the second showed his dribbling abilities and link-up play, and the third was a trademark goal from distance. By the end of the game, it felt like the Leigh Griffiths of old had been resurrected. And some pundits around the country had to eat some humble pie as a result of it.
Many had written the strike off completely after seeing him struggling with injuries throughout the season. In all honesty, he has not been the same player that scored 40 goals in a single season for quite some time now.
Many went on to claim that the arrival of Patryk Klimala was the end of the line for Griffiths at Parkhead. Instead it is Klimala who has found it hard to make it into the side due to the Scot’s form since returning from the winter training camp in Dubai.
One man who has been a huge critic of Griffiths in recent years is former Rangers star Kris Boyd. At one point this season, he had even claimed that Griffiths had just four weeks to save his Celtic career. How that has come back to bite him!
Celtic fans had a great time reminding the pundit of his past claims:
Griffiths has certainly lived through a nightmare these past few seasons for both on and off-field issues. And it is great to see him enjoying his time on the pitch once again.
