Celtic are set to help hand Steven Gerrard and his Rangers one of the most embarrassing records ever set for the cross-town rivals.

Steven Gerrard and his Rangers were brutally knocked out of the Scottish Cup quarter-finals when they lost to Hearts 1-0 this past weekend. It marks another stumble for a club who just days earlier advanced to the Round of 16 in the Europa League. And Celtic look set to pile on their agony.

Their domestic woes remain, and other than a win against Celtic in December, the Ibrox club has really no other highlight to its domestic campaign. They lost in the Betfred Cup, have been eliminated from the Scottish Cup, and are all but eliminated from winning the league unless an improbable implosion of Rangers proportions occurs for the Hoops.

All in all, it would mean that Steven Gerrard would be the first manager in 68-years not to lift hardware for two straight seasons. Yes, yes, it was the previous club, but still, it stands.

This is a story of Rangers purchasing high-dollar players, that have had little return in their domestic pursuits. Celtic, on the other hand, has built itself in a sustainable fashion from the ground up by producing young talent from its developmental programs and squads.

Rangers have a sense of arrogance and entitlement that they have some sort of divine right to hoist up the league crown and will do so through any means necessary. Except… they haven’t. And they won’t as long as their manager continues to lead his team in the current manner.

If Rangers want to win domestically for years to come, say like Celtic has, then here is the secret: take it slow, invest well, make smart money moves, and find some humility. Fortunately for Celtic fans, that day will never come for Rangers, which is why the good guys will always have a real chance at maintaining their championship status.
