Rangers slip up to clear Celtic’s path to Quadruple Treble
Rangers lost at Hearts in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, meaning that Celtic’s path to the Quadruple Treble is now clearer than ever.
Let’s admit it, it was not a great last few days as a Celtic fan. The Hoops were eliminated from the Europa League in embarrassing fashion, after losing 3-1 at home against Danish champions FC Copenhagen in the second leg of the Round of 32 tie.
What made the defeat sting even more is the fact that Rangers managed to make it into the Last 16 after winning both their legs against Portuguese side S.C. Braga. And Rangers fans did not waste any time in rubbing it in Celtic fans’ faces.
The fact that the Hoops had already beaten them to win the Scottish League Cup and were leading the Premiership by 12 points did not matter in their eyes. It is your last performance that matters in football and Celtic’s was a stinker.
The tables could not have turned quicker if you tried though. Just days after their success in Europe, Rangers suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Hearts to get themselves eliminated from the Scottish Cup.
Celtic will travel to Perth tomorrow to take on St Johnstone, and a win will secure their place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup. The Hoops will be joining Hibernian, Aberdeen and Hearts in the last four if they do manage to go through past their opponents tomorrow. And though easy by no means, one would think that the Rangers were the biggest threat on their path to a quadruple treble.
