It does not do well to dwell on the past, but Celtic was clearly denied what could have been a game-changing penalty by VAR.

Celtic went down to FC Copenhagen 3-1 on Thursday in what was a horrendous exit from European competition for the season. Hopes were high heading into the tie against FC Copenhagen after Celtic dominated their group which included Lazio who has been performing well in Serie A.

Instead, the Hoops flamed out in embarrassing fashion. However, the second leg of the match in Parkhead was interesting to say the least. The Hoops were thrown a lifeline late in the match, and took advantage when they tied up the score 1-1.

However, there was a point of controversy in the 49th minute when Callum McGregor seemingly scored goal, but was called back by the referees, as they determined that Christopher Jullien had fouled the FC Copenhagen goalkeeper,  Karl-Johan Johnsson.

Instead, pictures have now come to light thanks to Celtic Quick News, that show that Odsonne Edouard was fouled by the FC Copenhagen goalkeeper long before the altercation with Christopher Jullien ever took place.

In the end, it was nobody but Celtic’s fault that they lost to FC Copenhagen despite playing at home and being the heavily favoured side to advance. The Hoops will need to recage, and regroup after their disappointing European flame out and focus on the domestic task at hand.

That task, which is pursuing the quadruple-treble just got easier after the almighty Rangers were tossed out of the Scottish Cup by Hearts on Saturday.
