Larsson reveals why he rejected EPL clubs to stay at Celtic
By Kade Kistner
Henrik Larsson is one of the all-time Celtic greats and legends. In an interview with Sky Sports, Larsson reveals why he never left the Hoops for the EPL.
Many Celtic legends over the years have played and played well for Celtic. After their time was done, they always seemed to move on to the English Premier League. Players such as Mark Viduka, Victor Wanyama and Virgil van Dijk are a few of those well-known legends to make the move and do well.
However, Henrik Larsson, perhaps one of the best players to ever wear the Green and White did not make the move. During his 1997-2004 stint with the club, Henrik Larsson scored 243 goals, and even more impressively he scored 53 of those goals in one season.
Henrik Larsson did eventually make the move to Barcelona, where he then found himself heading to Manchester United. While he did end up in the English Premier League, he never left the Hoops for the opportunity.
Speaking to Sky Sports, and transcribed by the Daily Record, Henrik Larsson recounts his time at Celtic, and why he never felt compelled to make the move:
"“I was never bothered about that because I was happy at Celtic.“We had a good team, we played in Europe – in 2003 we went to the UEFA Cup Final.“I was playing with the Swedish national team on and off, so I was in a happy place.“I was earning good money, it was a great contract that I had.“So, to move down south for a few more pounds a week, it wasn’t interesting for me because I knew what we had at Celtic.”"
Henrik Larsson thoroughly enjoyed his time with the Hoops, and found a huge amount of success while with the club. Celtic has one of the best fan bases in the sport, and if you show loyalty, they will repay you with it ten-fold.
Henrik Larsson has learned this, as even to this day fans still invoke his name as one of the greatest to ever do it. He is truly a lifelong Bhoy.
