Celtic reportedly make decision regarding Edouard’s future
The Celtic officials have reportedly come to a decision regarding Odsonne Edouard’s future beyond this season, with rumours of a transfer refusing to go away.
Odsonne Edouard is without doubt the best player in Scotland right now. The Frenchman has been an absolute sensation since joining the Hoops and has taken his game a level up this season, scoring 26 times and assisting 17 further in 42 appearances – more than a goal contribution in each game. He has been the shining light of Celtic, in both domestic competitions and Europe.
Performances like these though have surely caught the attention of clubs all around Europe as he continues to be linked with a move away from the club in the summer. That will be a huge blow for the Glasgow side though and one that they should try to avoid at all costs.
Right now Celtic sit 12 points ahead of second-placed Rangers in the Premiership table and barring a miracle, they are expected to win the league at the end of the season with just 10 games left to be played. If it does happen, it will be a record-equaling ninth straight league title for them and then they will be challenging for a historic ten-in-a-row next season – the holy grail!
Thus, we do not need to explain how big of a blow it will be if Edouard ends up leaving the club next summer. He’ll have two years left on his contract at the time and the club’s ability to get him to sign an extension could end up proving vital.
As reported by Football Insider, the club have decided that they will end selling the Frenchman if they are unable to reach a new deal with him. Negotiations are currently going on between the two parties.
While keeping him at the club despite not putting pen to paper on a new contract will significantly hurt his value in the transfer market, the reality of the situation is that Celtic might never get the chance to win ten-in-a-row ever again. Opportunities like this do not come every day and letting Edouard leave just for the money could end up haunting us for the rest of our lives.
