Former Celtic legend, and current Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has made a bold prediction about the Scottish Premiership League title race.

Despite playing for soon-to-be English Premiership League champions Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk still keep an eye on his former club Celtic from time to time. The Hoops have put together quite the performance this season as they have now pulled 12 points clear of Rangers in the table.

Rangers and their fans still believe that a comeback to take the domestic title is a possibility, but those only seem like fool’s dreams at this point. The writing is on the wall for Rangers, and everyone knows it, including Virgil van Dijk.

The Liverpool defender still watches Hoops matches when he can, and keeps in touch with some of the players during his time in Scotland, like Nir Bitton. It makes sense that Virgil van Dik would still be interested in his former club that helped him rise to global stardom.

Quoted by BBC Sport Scotland, Virgil van Dijk gave his prediction on the title race nearly in hand for the Hoops:

"“I still watch Celtic games. I have friends there – I’m still in contact with Nir Bitton – and I always keep an eye on how things are going.“It’s 10 points difference now so it’s not going to be in danger any more – it is Celtic’s title.”"

So, unless you’re Rangers or one of their fans, the title race is all but over. Celtic will continue to play hard to ensure that they cannot be crept up on, but the title is all but in hand.

The Hoops will need to turn their focus to Europe in order to pursue their Europa League goals, and help with the nation’s coefficient in order to help them reach the Champions League with more ease next season.
