Neil Lennon reveals only regret from Celtic’s 1-1 draw
Neil Lennon has revealed his only regret from Celtic’s 1-1 draw away at FC Copenhagen in the first-leg of the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League.
It is hard to judge what to make of Celtic’s result away at Telia Parken against FC Copenhagen. In the beginning of the game, it had looked like the Hoops were going to run away with the game. In a dominant first-half display, they went ahead early with a brilliant finish from Odsonne Edouard and should have scored a few more before the break with a number of chances going begging.
It was a game of two halves though as the second half was a completely different story though. The hosts came out of the break all guns blazing and equalised in the 52nd minute through N’Doye. And the rest of the half was completely dominated by the Danish champions as well.
Ultimately, the Hoops were lucky to walk away with a draw after Ryan Christie gave away a penalty in the 78th minute. Only for Fraser Forster to come good one more time with a brilliant save to keep the scores tied.
The 1-1 result was probably a fair result, with each team dominating one half each. And Neil Lennon appeared happy to take the draw to Celtic Park, with a win on the day guaranteeing progression to the last 16. The manager though had one regret from the night.
As reported by Daily Record, Lennon said:
"“I’m disappointed we haven’t come away with more goals.“I thought we had good control of the first half and going in 1-0 at half-time I thought we could have been maybe two or three up.“We gave away a poor goal from our point of view and it gave Copenhagen a huge lift psychology.“We lost it in a bad area and didn’t react well enough to it. It was sloppy from our point of view."
The Celtic boss has hit the nail on the head with this one. Celtic certainly should have scored more than once in the first half. And while the hosts did have their chances in the second half as well, they might very well have been completely down and out if they went into break two or three goals down.
