Davie Provan, a Sky Sports pundit, has made a surprising claim about Celtic, and the domestic title chances after their recent run of play.

Davie Provan has historically not been the most optimistic pundit covering Celtic. Which is why it comes as a bit of a shock or surprise considering his newest title claim, and what it means for the Hoops.

At the turn of the calendar into the New Year, things were looking bleak for the Hoops, while Rangers were only two points back with a game in hand. However, things have drastically changed for both clubs.

Rangers has now dropped 10 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership League table. Meanwhile, the Hoops have won nine matches in a row, and scored three goals or more in seven of them. These reversal of fortunes undoubtedly changed Davie Provan’s tune.

In his SunSport column, Davie Provan all but out a nail in Rangers’ title chances:

"“You can bet when he screamed into the camera after Gers’ derby win, he didn’t see this coming. He must have felt lessons had been learned from last year.“Yet in the 45 days since that win, Rangers have managed to blow it.“Ignore the usual suspects still trying to make a case for Rangers. One look at the numbers tells you the title is already in Lennon’s hip pocket.”"

Aside from their recent performance at Aberdeen, which can be attributed to a number of factors, including weather, the Hoops have looked great. A huge challenge lies ahead of them in Copenhagen on Thursday, and while it has no consequence for domestic play, it will be a huge benchmark to see where the Bhoys really are.

Barring a catastrophic break down, much like the one Rangers are currently experiencing, the Hoops have the domestic title nearly locked up. Celtic will look to redeem themselves next month for December’s loss when they travel to Ibrox.
