Neil Lennon’s injury update about Jeremie Frimpong will have Celtic fans worried about the 19-year-old.

Jeremie Frimpong’s rise at Celtic Park since his arrival in the summer from Manchester City has been meteoric. The 19-year-old was not expected to come anywhere near the Hoops’ first-team upon joining the club but within a few months, he managed to get ahead of more experienced teammates like Hatem Abd Elhamed and Moritz Bauer, in the Celtic right-back pecking order.

‘Exciting’ is the word that describes the Dutch teenager best. Never afraid to go forward, he is a handful for anyone he is paired up against. And the fact that he can hold his own in defense is just the cherry on the cake. If everything goes to plan, Frimpong will be mainstay in the Celtic team for the next decade or so.

Fortunes can change very quickly in football though. Frimpong got injured in Celtic’s 3-1 win away at Kilmarnock after being clattered into by Alan Power despite the game being virtually over at that point of time.

And while he was expected to resume training tomorrow, now it appears Frimpong might be on the sideline for some more time.

As reported by Daily Record, following Celtic’s 3-0 win against Clyde in the Scottish Cup, Neil Lennon said:

"“The likes of Elyounoussi and Christie, them getting 85 or 90 minutes under their belt will do them a lot of good.“You just have to take each game as it comes and win each game as it comes as best you can. We’ve got a midweek game then another one next weekend so they’re coming thick and fast, but we’re getting a few back now.“We’ve got Bitton and Elhamed, they’ll start training tomorrow, and then we just wait and see how long (Jeremie) Frimpong’s going to be.”"

This is really unfortunate for the youngster. After doing so well to nail down a spot in the first-team, the injury means that he will have to fight for the right-back once again upon return with Elhamed and Bauer.

But if we have known anything about young Jeremie in these last few months, it is the fact that he is not one to shy away from challenges. You don’t make it into the Celtic first-team just months after joining the club as a 18-year-old if you do not have the Champion’s mentality. And he has that in spades, trust us on that one!
