Celtic superstar Leigh Griffiths has had well documented struggles in the last year. But now, he reveals what changed to allow him back into form.

Leigh Griffiths spent much of last season not playing football. His battle with mental health issues kept him off the pitch this time last year. Many fans and pundits alike believed it was the end of his Celtic career and quite possibly the end of his football career.

But since returning from the winter break, Leigh Griffiths’ 2020 has been phenomenal. With the newer two-striker approach that Hoops boss Neil Lennon has implemented, Leigh Griffiths looks and plays like a superstar again.

In just six matches, the striker has scored four goals, which is an incredible pace many thought he would never achieve again. So what happened that allowed him to have a rebirth of sorts? He moved from Edinburgh to Glasgow, and that reduction in travel time has paid off.

Speaking with the Scotsman, Leigh Griffiths explains the move and how it has benefited him:

"“This time last year, I was nowhere to be seen. Now I’m back playing, scoring goals and feeling good. It’s now about continuing that way in my day to day life, making sure I’m on the ball in training and looking after myself off the pitch.“What have I changed? Where I’m living, for one thing. I had to move through to Glasgow from Edinburgh, which was a massive change for me. I’ve always stayed in Edinburgh, so it was a bit of a shock for me to come through and one of the biggest decisions I’ve made, but I am loving it.“Usually, they tell you to get out of Glasgow when you play for Celtic or Rangers – I’m looking to get closer but it’s all down to the club. They wanted me to be within touching distance of the stadium and training ground for my own well being. It’s not an hour and a half drive each way every day now."

Clearly the move has paid off for the striker, as now the Hoops have scored at least three goals in each of their last five matches, and have not lost a match since the start of 2020. Leigh Griffiths has played a large role in making that happen, along with fellow striker Odsonne Edouard.

With Celtic now seven points clear of Rangers, and the entire squad starting to click, this club has the potential to not only win another treble, but also make some waves in Europe.
