Steven Gerrard blamed Alfredo Morelos for the dropped points against Aberdeen as Rangers lost major ground to Celtic in the Premiership title race.

It is hard to believe that just over a month ago it was all rainbows and unicorns at Ibrox. Rangers had managed to beat Celtic in their own backyard for the first time since 2010 and they were flying high going into the winter break, knowing that a win in their game in hand would take them to the top of the Premiership.

Funnily enough, the club have been in abysmal form since then, losing to away at bottom-placed Hearts last week and now drawing a blank against Aberdeen in a 0-0 draw at Ibrox, a tie that they had won 5-0 earlier in the season.

The wheels are starting to fall off of Gerrard’s bus and it looks like the finger-pointing is about to start as well. Following the draw against Aberdeen, the Rangers manager decided to put the majority of the blame on Alfredo Morelos’ shoulders for his side’s failure to put the ball in the back of the net.

Speaking after the game, Gerrard told Rangers TV:

"“We’ve created three or four big moments in the game. The biggest two were obviously one in the first half when Alfredo should have put Ryan Kent in on goal. The second he should have taken the chance that was presented to him, fantastic ball by Conor. The result could have been different if we had taken those two big moments.“The reality is, me big players, me talented players in the final third never delivered today.”"

The result means that both of the Glasgow sides have now played 23 games each in the league this season. And Celtic now have a four-point lead over their closest title rivals as they look to win a record-equaling ninth straight Scottish League title in a row.

The Hoops take on Hamilton Academical tomorrow and a win will leave them 7 points ahead of Rangers, piling even more pressure on Gerrard and his men, who seem to be cracking under it.
