Crystal Palace set to outbid Celtic for Scottish wonderkid
Celtic receive transfer blow as they are set to be outbid by Premier League’s Crystal Palace for 17-year-old Scottish wonderkid.
Celtic have been recently linked with former youth star Aaron Hickey. The left-back came through the the club’s youth ranks but ended up returning to boyhood club, Hearts, in 2018.
Hickey has emerged as an absolute star this season. Still just 17 years of age, the Scot has made 25 appearances for Hearts and made the left-back position his own at Tynecastle Park.
As a result, the Hoops have been linked with the teenager rated at around £1.5-million by Hearts. There is a lot of competition for his signature though as Crystal Palace are also very keen on Hickey while according to reports in The Mirror, Liverpool and Arsenal have also scouted him.
Left-back has been a position of concern for Celtic this season with both Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor failing to fully convince that they are capable of filling the hole left behind by Kieran Tierney. As a result, brining in Hickey is not the worst idea in the world. In fact, the youngster ticks many of the same boxes as Celtic’s former number 63.
But it looks like the Hoops are set to miss out on their man. As reported by The Sun, Crystal Palace are ready to outbid the reigning Scottish champions for Hickey. And while the youngster prefers a move to Celtic according to reports in the Daily Star, the Premier League club’s financial muscle could see him move to Selhurst Park.
Celtic though are set to earn 30% of whatever Hearts sell him for, as a result of Hickey coming through the Hoops’ developmental ranks. So if they do not to manage to land the 17-year-old, they are going to get some money instead.
