Callum McGregor wants Celtic to complete the signing of the £2 million-rated midfielder whose style has been compared to N’Golo Kante.

Callum McGregor has continued to rack up incredible numbers for Celtic. After making a staggering 160 appearances for The Hoops over the last three seasons, he has already made 37 appearances in 2019-20 and might very well be set to hit the 60-game mark this season. And while it is very impressive how he manages to play such a staggering amount of football consistently, the midfielder could do with some backup in midfield.

Celtic might be about to provide him with just that in the form of Ismaila Soro. The Ivory Coast midfielder has been linked with the Hoops for quite some time and now looks all set to join the Scottish champions after multiple reliable people claiming that a deal has been done. The transfer fee is reported to be around £2-million.

And not one to run away from some competition, McGregor seems to be relishing the idea of potentially having the Ivorian at Parkhead. His recent comments suggest that the 26-year-old is happy to compete with Soro for his place in the team.

Speaking with BBC Sport, McGregor said:

"“It’s always important at big clubs that you get competition for places and its always healthy for the dressing room as well.“The more quality players that we can get in then that drives the standard up. I think it would be good if we manage to get him in and see what he’s about.”"

While both play in midfield, McGregor and Soro are very different players. While the Scot is renowned for his ability to keep things ticking in midfielder and the occasional thunderbolt from outside the box, the Ivory Coast midfielder has made for himself for his ability to break down opposition plays in the same vein as N’Golo Kante.

According to The Scottish Sun, Soro is set to have his medical soon before completing a move to Celtic. And when he does arrive, it will be interesting to see how Neil Lennon decides to deploy him in the Celtic midfield that has been dominated by Scott Brown and Callum McGregor over the past several years.
