Celtic’s new £2.2-million star arrived last summer. His arrival was supposed to mark a change in philosophy, instead, he has played the role of spectator.
Celtic made a move last summer for Greg Taylor what saw the left-back move from Scottish Premiership-side Kilmarnock. At the time of his move to the Green and White, fellow left-back Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo was struggling through the season.
Greg Taylor was meant to see significant playing time, or so fans thought was the plan. However, Celtic boss Neil Lennon has been using Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo in the highest leverage of situations, while playing Johnny Hayes as cover.
During his time with the club, Greg Taylor has mostly played the role of spectator considering he hasn’t been able to take the pitch with any regularity.
Speaking with the Scottish Sun, Greg Taylor gave some admissions about his time with the club:
"“You want to be involved as much as possible.“The aim for the next few months is nailing down a place in the team.“It’s been hard not playing but it’s to be expected at a club like this with more competition.“When I came in the boys were doing well and winning. You have to swallow it as much as you want to be playing.“If an opportunity arises though I hope to take it with both hands.”"
Clearly Greg Taylor is frustrated by his situation in regards to his time on the pitch. However, he went from the number one type of player on Kilmarnock, to having to prove he has earned playing time over other quality players.
The left-back was able to get in the match against Partick Thistle, and despite the club being a Championship-side, Greg Taylor played incredibly well and opened some eyes.
Greg Taylor used the most of his opportunity on Saturday, and should have caught the notice of Neil Lennon. Taylor will now need to take advantage of future opportunities that are sure to arise after his performance on Saturday.
