Pundit slams Celtic fans for lack of respect towards star
By Kade Kistner
Celtic fans are being called out for a lack of respect towards one of their most beloved players, whose future is in the balance with the club.
Former Hibernian forward Tam McManus has come out and publicly stated that Celtic fans need to pay more respect to current Hoops striker Leigh Griffiths. Much of the issue that have surrounded Leigh Griffiths have recently surfaced with the signing of new Polish-striker Patryk Klimala.
Leigh Griffiths, the long time Hoops striker, and fan-favourite, has some speculation about his future with the club. The striker has missed time last year with mental health battles, and has spent a significant time this year with injury.
Patryk Klimala serves as another hurdle for Leigh Griffiths to find some playing time. That is being exemplified by the fact that teammate and striker Vakoun Issouf Bayo is asking for a loan move in order to find playing time.
Leigh Griffiths posted a tweet that had many speculating what it meant, and how it relates to his future. Soon after the tweet’s posting, Leigh Griffiths deleted his Twitter account altogether.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer and transcribed by the Scottish Sun, Tam McManus gave his thoughts about Leigh Griffths’ tweet and situation:
"“First and foremost I think some of the abuse he has got from Celtic supporters has been poor.“I don’t think there was a lot in the tweet to be honest. He’s liked a tweet saying that his days are numbered.“I think probably his days are numbered at Celtic. He put another one up with a silence sort of thing. I don’t think there was a lot in it.“Celtic fans need to remember Leigh Griffiths is a top player and has been a great servant for Celtic.”"
Tam McManus, is quite frankly, not incorrect. The amount of disdain for Leigh Griffiths from the fanbase has been absurd this January. What Leigh Griffiths was able to achieve for the club has to go down as one of the best in the club’s recent history.
If Leigh Griffiths can prove that he can come back healthy, and be dependable, he very well could find himself back firmly in the mix for playing time. If that can’t be accomplished, then what Tam McManus says is true: his days with Celtic are numbered.
