Celtic face steep competition for Premier League striker as Sheffield United manager confirms enquiry has been made for his services.

Celtic have already strengthened their forward ranks in the January transfer window by signing Polish striker, Patryk Klimala. The 21-year-old has scored 7 goals in 18 appearances this season and is highly-rated in his native Poland. But he is far from the finished product at the moment and combined with the fact that he is moving to a completely different country, the Hoops fans should not expect to see the best of him this season.

As a result, the club could do with an experienced option up top. In a perfect world, Leigh Griffiths would have been that man. But there are clouds hanging over his Celtic future as well, as he struggles to find regular football at Parkhead these days.

The Scot has only managed to score 3 goals this season and it would not be the worst idea in the world to bring in another experienced striker with a reputation for finding the back of the net, especially with Vakoun Issouf Bayo looking set to leave the club on loan.

Billy Sharp could turn to be that man for Celtic. After scoring for fun in the lower leagues of English football for years, the 33-year-old has found the step up to the Premier League difficult. He has managed to score just once in 12 appearances this term for Sheffield United, who might be looking to get him off the books in January.

At 33 years of age, Sharp does not hold much long-term value. But he could be an inspired signing if the club manage to get him on loan till the end of the season. Having scored 23 goals in the Championship just last season, it is safe to say there is still a lot of football left in the Sheffield United captain.

Of course, if Griffiths does end up staying at the club, then bringing in Sharp would not make much sense. But with nine-in-a-row hanging in the balance, the club must be ready for any situation.

Celtic must move quick though if they want to bring in the striker to Parkhead as Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are also reportedly interested in his signature. And Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, has confirmed to The Star that there has been an enquiry regarding the striker.
