A first-team spot could be in the future for one Celtic academy star as Neil Lennon could not stop singing his praises following the club’s Dubai training camp.

After losing at home to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in a toothless display, the winter break was surely a welcome one for the Hoops. It gave them the chance to take a rest after an intense first half of the season and also reflect on where things had gone wrong against their Glasgow rivals. An now after recharging their batteries, Celtic will be returning to action on January 18th, when they take on Partick Thistle in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

The team went to Dubai for a training camp during the break. And it gave Neil Lennon the opportunity to take a look at some of the younger players who would not have necessarily grabbed his attention in the middle of the hustle and bustle of playing twice every week.

And one man who has certainly managed to impress the manager is Scott Robertson. Lennon was full of praise for the youngster after returning from the training camp and his performance there might very well have opened the door for future first-team opportunities.

Speaking to The Celtic View (Volume 55, Issue 25, Page 7), the manager said:

"“Scott was excellent. He’s a very good young professional and a good roaming footballer. We had him out in Austria for pre-season, but even then, I don’t think he’s ever trained as intensely as he did over in Dubai.“With that intensity, that heat, it was a new experience for him but he coped very, very well. I’m delighted with his efforts.”"

Robertson was given his first-team debut earlier in the season in Celtic’s 2-0 loss away in Romania against CFR Cluj in the last matchday of the Europa League group stage. The midfielder though came out of the game with his reputation enhanced and now it looks like he has done one better during the club’s Dubai training camp.

The good news just keeps coming regarding Robertson, as he scored the winner against Chelsea under-23s today. And if he manages to keep progressing at this rate, then he could bee a regular in the first-team in the not too distant future.
