Rangers’ Steven Gerrard has made some pretty big claims this week, and Celtic legend Chris Sutton was quick to call him out.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has called out the media, and rival clubs for unfairly treating his striker Alfredo Morelos after the most recent Glasgow Derby match on December 29th. The Colombian striker was sent off the pitch for his actions against Celtic. Now Chris Sutton is having his say.

For a quick refresher, Alfredo Morelos made a throat-slitting gesture to the Celtic crowd in Parkhead, while fellow teammate Ryan Kent made a gun gesture. The media, and Celtic have been in an uproar since the incident, and rightly so.

Celtic’s Ryan Christie was sentenced to a two-game ban for an altercation with Alfredo Morelos in that same match. Ryan Christie was reportedly injured as well.

According to the Daily Record, Steven Gerrard had some pretty big claims about how Alfredo Morelos was being treated:

"““Is Alfredo perfect right now? No. Will he makes a few mistakes going forward? I predict he probably will, but a lot of the fallout and the opinion, people do want to kill him.“People want to see him on the other side of the world for good. You also have to understand where that’s coming from and the reasons why it’s getting said.”"

For Steven Gerrard to even remotely suggest that what Alfredo Morelos did was acceptable is astonishing. Then to act like they are the victims? Well, let’s just say Celtic legend Chris Sutton isn’t buying it.

All football fans, regardless of which colors you choose to wear, have to understand a throat-slitting gesture by Alfredo Morelos is in all probability not a signal that “the game has ended”. It is a violent gesture that has not been seen in Scottish football in a long time, if ever.

The fact that not only Morelos get away with his actions, but now his manager is able to go to the media and claim they are the victims? Priceless. Nothing new to see here from Rangers.
