Brendan Rodgers set to make £30 million bid for Celtic star
Brendan Rodgers is set to make an audacious £30 million bid for Celtic star in order to reunite with him at Leicester City.
The manner in which Brendan Rodgers left Celtic to hang out in the dry when he joined Leicester City in the middle of the season must have left a bitter taste in a lot fans’ mouths. But the former Hoops boss has now found a way to become even less popular around Parkhead as he plots to make a £30 million bid for Odsonne Edouard.
It was Rodgers who brought the Frenchman to Celtic from Paris Saint-Germain on loan and sanctioned a club record £9 million move for him the very next season. Thus, there is no doubt that the manager rates him very highly and it should not come as a surprise that he wants to bring him to the Premier League this time around.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Rodgers is hoping to lure the 21-year-old to the Premier League and is ready to make a £30 million bid in order to entice Celtic into making a deal. If the move does happen, it would absolutely destroy the Scottish record for transfer fee received by a club.
Rodgers enjoyed a wildly successful time during his time at Celtic Park and could have ended up as a club legend if not for the manner in which he left the club. He has done very well at Leicester City as well though, with the team currently in the top four of the Premier League table and looking very likely to qualify for the Champions League next season.
On the other hand, Odsonne Edouard has grown from strength-to-strength as well and is arguably the best player plying his trade in Scotland at the moment. He has scored 16 goals and provided 15 assists in just 31 appearances this season. And thus, Celtic will be in no hurry to part ways with the Frenchman.
While a £30 million bid would be enticing to say the least, Celtic must not sell Edouard at any cost. Rangers have emerged as a genuine threat to the Premiership title this season and selling the club’s main striker at this point of time would tilt the balance of the title race overwhelming in the favour of Steven Gerrard’s side. Thus, it is incredibly hard to justify letting the Frenchman go, whatever the price may be.
