Celtic have beat out the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham United, Southampton and Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City to their first signing of January.

Celtic fans have been waiting for the club to make their move in January and bring in a few new faces in order to cope with the growing threat of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers to the Scottish crown. And the first signing has finally come but it is not a name that would have been on most fans’ wish-list.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic believe that they have managed to secure the signing of 15-year-old winger, Bruno Davidson, ahead of the likes of Leicester City, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Southampton. The teenager currently plays at Edinburgh boys club Hutchinson Vale and judging by the whole host of Premier League clubs interested in him, he must be quite the prospect.

Celtic hope to sign him to a three-year contract this week. He is expected to join the club’s developmental team upon signing. And while Davidson is certainly one to look out for in the future, it is signings who will make an immediate impact that the club should be looking to make at this point of time.

After suffering their first Glasgow Derby loss at Parkhead since 2010 last Sunday, the Hoops must be looking for ways to improve their senior squad in this transfer window. Rangers have completely outplayed Neil Lennon’s side in their last two meetings and now have the momentum on their side heading into the second half of the season.

The January transfer window though provides Celtic with the opportunity to tilt the title race back in their own favour by making some big signings. There are a lot of holes in the current squad that needs filling and hopefully they manage to do that as soon as possible. With nine-in-a-row now in legitimate danger, the board cannot afford to take any risks.
