Southampton have revealed the transfer fee Celtic have to pay to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent basis next summer.

One man we have not heard much of in the past few months is Mohamed Elyounoussi. The Norwegian has been injured since early November when Celtic beat out Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup semi-final. He did briefly return for the final vs Rangers but had to be taken off at half-time after it became clear that he was nowhere near full fitness and has not been seen since.

Elyounoussi is set to make a return to action when the season resumes in mid-January. And if he can replicate the form that he was in before getting injured then he will be walking back into the first-team. Mikey Johnston was expected to give a tough fight to the Norwegian but after his recent performance in the 2-1 loss to Rangers, it is clear that the young Scot still has a lot to learn.

The Norwegian has scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists in just 13 appearances since arriving at Parkhead from Southampton on a season-long loan. And Celtic will surely be looking to make that deal permanent in the near future.

According to the Daily Record, they can do just that for a transfer fee of £9 million:

"‘Celtic could land winger Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent deal if they are willing to match the £9m they splashed out on Odsonne Edouard in June 2018.‘Record Sport understands fears that the Norwegian international would be out of the Hoops’ price range are unfounded and that a deal to secure Elyounoussi from Southampton remains a possibility.‘Reports had claimed that the English Premier League side paid Basel £16 million to sign the winger back in 2018, but the actual figure is understood to be £12m plus add-ons, which are unlikely to be hit unless Elyounoussi forces his way back into the Southampton team.’"

If truth be told, that might very well be a cut price deal for a man with the quality of Elyounoussi. In today’s inflated transfer market, it is hard to find players like him below the 8-figure mark and Celtic should not think twice before paying that to Southampton to keep the 25-year-old at Parkhead permanently.
