Alex Rae absolutely embarrassed himself in a Celtic-Rangers Twitter feud with former Hoops striker, Chris Sutton, following Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.
There were a lot of talking points coming out of Celtic’s loss at the hands of Rangers at Parkhead. It meant that Steven Gerrard’s men finally announced themselves as genuine contenders for the Scottish crown again after spending almost a decade on the periphery.
On the other, with nine-in-a-row hanging in the balance, it will be interesting to see what Celtic do after being dominated in two straight derbies by their nearest rivals. Thus, it should come as no surprise if we see a few new faces at Parkhead when the season resumes in mid-January.
But it was not the football that attracted attention on Sunday but some of the actions of those involved in the game as well. Steven Gerrard was widely criticised for his wild celebrations. Ryan Kent also made ‘gun signs’ after scoring his goal. Yet as expected, the spotlight was on Alfredo Morelos again who made ‘slit-throat’ gestures towards the Celtic fans after being sent off in the 96th minute for diving.
Chris Sutton has been very vocal against Morelos’ actions following the game and has asked the SFA to ban the striker. But Alex Rae came to the Colombian star’s defence and ended up embarrassing himself as a result of it.
He replied this to one of Sutton’s tweets:
Stop it the only one who is embarrassing himself is you.

1st it was the manager for his celebration.
Then @ScottishFA should act an ban Alfredo.#Meltdown
😆
This was the Celtic legend’s reply:
I have to say I’m surprised you’re endorsing violent gestures inside football stadiums... https://t.co/wX8xpTvdmw

It is mind-boggling that the pundit decided to defend Morelos on this occasion. The Colombian clearly deserves to be banned after making the gesture on Sunday. Let’s not forget, Christie is being threatened with a two-game ban for accidentally touching the Colombian’s groin region. But for some reason, Rae felt like it was a good idea to pretend that what Morelos did is so minor an offence that it did not even deserve further discussion.
