Celtic are set to take on Rangers on Sunday in a Scottish League Cup final. Here is our predicted starting XI for the match.
Celtic will be looking to add to their trophy case on Sunday when they have the opportunity to add the Scottish League Cup. To do that, the Hoops will have to face off against one of the toughest Rangers squads in recent years.
Celtic has been on a roll lately, first defeating French-side Rennes in the Europa League, and then defeating Ross County and Hamilton in the Scottish Premier League. Rangers on the other hand have not fared as well after dropping two points in a tie to Aberdeen. While Rangers have found success to in Europe this season, it hardly compares to the Hoops success.
The Scottish League Cup final promises to be a good one, here is our predicted starting XI for the Hoops:
GK: Fraser Forster
Despite allowing the late goal during regulation to Hamilton, the big man had a solid match, full of highlight reel saves. He is the go-to man for Sunday.
RB: Moritz Bauer
Moritz Bauer should get the start on Sunday against Rangers and Hatem Abd Elhamed is out injured. Bauer played well against Hamilton, and was taken out in the second half, perhaps in order to rest him for Rangers. At the end of the day, it is his experience that might get him the nod ahead of Jeremie Frimpong.
The man has been great, but sat out against Hamilton. He is a no-brainer to start.
CB: Kristoffer Ajer
Ajer has looked great recently, and his play on the offensive side of the pitch may be necessary to give the Hoops that extra push on Sunday.
Greg Taylor will be cup-tied come Sunday against Rangers. It is also rumoured that Bolingoli will be ready to go on Sunday against Rangers as evidenced by his return to training.
CM: Scott Brown (c)
The man, the myth, the legend. Captain Brown will start. No questions asked.
CM: Callum McGregor
The bhoy has been great. His leadership presence will be invaluable.
RW: James Forrest
Nothing to say here. This is about as much a given as Scott Brown starting is.
CAM: Ryan Christie
Ryan Christie proved once again why he is one of the most influential players on this club. The future captain will get his chance to show-off against Rangers.
Mohamed Elyounoussi should be fit for the match Sunday. His experience will help Celtic dominate the Rangers on his side. Mikey Johnston will get the start if Mo isn’t healthy.
ST: Odsonne Edouard
The superstar striker returned to the training field after missing the last few matches due to injury. He has to get the start if he is remotely healthy in the most important match to date this season. If he isn’t healthy, Lewis Morgan or Leigh Griffiths will get the start in his place.
