Celtic superstar Callum McGregor has high praise for one of his Parkhead teammates amid some criticism from the press and fans.

Callum MacGregor has made a name for himself on the Celtic squad. His name also has started to spread outside of Scotland’s borders due to his phenomenal play. However, instead of using his platform to talk about himself, he has instead decided to use it in order to praise one of his teammates.

The teammate in question is Lewis Morgan, the natural winger/midfielder who has had to convert to striker recently in order to combat a rash of injuries to the Hoops starting, natural strikers. Both Odsonne Edouard and Vakoun Issouf Bayo have missed significant time due to injury, while fan-favourite Leigh Griffiths has just started to take the pitch again after his own injury.

In their absence, Lewis Morgan, who in all reality has not seen much time on the pitch this season, got the call-up to be the club’s striker. During his time as the reserve striker, Lewis Morgan has scored a Europa League goal against French-side Rennes, and played admirably against both Ross County and Hamilton. However, despite his production, there has been plenty of talk of Lewis Morgan being moved in January.

Luckily his star teammate, Callum MacGregor spoke with SkySports about Lewis Morgan and his recent performances:

"“[Edouard] is such a big player for us at home and in Europe but Lewis has stepped up and scored the goal against Rennes.“We’ve got loads of strength and depth in the squad and whoever is asked to play up front on Sunday, I’m sure they’ll do a job for the team.“You can tell Lewis is an intelligent footballer. Normally these guys with the brains to play anywhere on the pitch.“It was great for him to come in, get his start and his goal last week and you can see he’s full of confidence and got his assist last night with his wee flash across the box.“He’s been great since he came in and it’s another boost for the team to show that when boys come in they are ready to play.”"

That is some high praise coming from Callum MacGregor about his teammate Lewis Morgan. It is clear that the rest of the squad realizes what Morgan is doing, and that their depth is a key strength for this club going forward.

As McGregor said, even if Lewis Morgan is called upon to start at striker on Sunday against Rangers, his performances recently should give the fans and the squad hope that he will be up to the task.
