Barry Ferguson makes bold prediction about Celtic and Rangers
Barry Ferguson has made a bold prediction about Celtic and Rangers, the two Glasgow sides going head-to-head at the top of Premiership.
The Premiership title race is going on as most people would have expected with both Celtic and Rangers setting the pace at the start of the season. Both clubs are on 31 points after the first 12 league games of the Premiership season, having both lost and drawn one game each, with Celtic ahead on goal difference at the top of the table.
Celtic have dominated Scottish football for the good part of a decade. But Rangers have made a resurgence since the arrival of Steven Gerrard as manager and now look like genuine title contenders under the Liverpool legend. As a result, this season’s title race looks like it will go down to the wire.
Former Rangers midfielder, Barry Ferguson, is of the same opinion and has even gone as far as to suggest that the two Glasgow clubs will not drop points in the league till they meet each other in the Old Firm Derby.
This is a big statement since the next Old Firm Derby is scheduled for 29th December and even though both sides have strong squads, there is always the possibility of dropping points over such a long period of time. Teams like Aberdeen and Hibernian always have a chance of nicking a result, while unfancied sides like Livingston are also pulling off an upset, as Celtic learned the hard way earlier this season.
Ferguson though seems confident in his prediction. He wrote in the Daily Record:
"“Between them they’re about to face a total of 13 league games before they take on one another in the New Year’s derby on December 29. Celtic will play seven times, Rangers six. And I’m prepared to put my neck on the line right now and say there’s a high probability that neither of them will drop a single point between now and then.“Look, I might be wrong – there may be a slip up along the way – but the truth of the matter is they look way too strong for all of the rest and I honestly can’t see anything other than maximum points for them both because they also realise they are entering the heart of the battle for this season’s title.”"
The fans of the two sides do not have to wait till the end of the year to face each other though, as they will meet each other in the final of the Scottish League Cup in less than two weeks time.
