Celtic may be in the market for another striker, but Alex Rae believes one star in particular may not even be able to crack the starting XI for the club.

This time of year transfer rumours are swirling, no scratch that, FLYING around. Now, Celtic is perhaps poised to add another striker to the group after Vakoun Issouf Bayo has gone down with an injury. That leaves the club with only one true striker to lean on- Odsonne Edouard.

According to the Daily Record, it is possible the club may make a move for the world-renowned striker in Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Also rightly pointed out by the Record, is the astronomical wages that would most likely keep the Swedish footballer from joining the Hoops. But, one can dream of Ibrahimovic wearing the green and white.

However, in typical fashion, Rangers legend Alex Rae had his “hot take” on the possible Ibrahimovic and Celtic union.

Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Alex Rae let it be known what he thinks of the Hoops’ current situation at striker:

"“In terms of marketing, he struggles for a bit of confidence though, Ibrahimovic, isn’t he a bit shy?!“”But in terms of what he would bring to the table, we see some of his goals for LA Galaxy. I love the fact that, is it, Vela? the boy who he was getting embroiled in an argument with, he referred to him as a mini to a Rolls Royce, you know that type of thing. He would be brilliant for the game.“Look, Celtic play with one up top, where he would fit in, I don’t know – he wouldn’t get a game! He wouldn’t get a game! If he comes do you think big Edouard is going to sit on the bench?”"

So, in essence, Alex Rae was giving some love and compliments to Edouard, as he believes that Ibrahimovic would not be able to find any playing time. This in some sense is true, as Neil Lennon could not sit Edouard after the performances he is having this season.

Therefore, where would Ibrahimovic fit in this club? For a club that is well-known for going younger, and cheaper, Ibrahimovic does not have much of place on the squad. While having Ibrahimovic on Celtic, and in the SPL, the Hoops have no need to pay top dollar for a backup striker when our own Bhoy is getting the job done currently.

All of this being said, a legitimate backup for Edouard is needed, especially if Bayo continues to struggle with injuries. That player just cannot come at the cost that Ibrahimovic would demand.
