Former Hearts and Hibernian midfielder, Michael Stewart, has slammed Rangers star Sheyi Ojo for his recent comments about Celtic, which he has termed as ‘crazy’.

After winning eight Scottish Premiership titles in a row, it is safe to say that Celtic are currently the premier side in Scotland. And if they manage to win the League again this year, it will see them equal the all-time record for most consecutive league titles and as a result go down as one of the greatest teams ever assembled in Scottish football history.

But that has not stopped everybody from questioning the Hoops title credentials this season. One such player is Sheyi Ojo, the Liverpool winger currently on loan at Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Ojo made headlines earlier this season when he claimed that Rangers were the ‘best team in Scotland’.

Naturally the 22-year-old received a lot backlash from the footballing world for his comments. And it would appear that he had been taught a lesson after Celtic’s magnificent 2-0 win away at Ibrox earlier this season. But after a string of impressive displays from the Rangers, Ojo has decided to double down on his earlier comments.

According to The Scottish Sun, speaking to the media after thrashing Aberdeen 5-0 at Ibrox, Ojo said:

"“I stand by what I said and I think Rangers are in a good run of form.“We are doing really well so far this season and we are looking hungry.“Any team that looks hungry and getting wins, it can only be positive.“Of course we have to give Celtic respect but, from my own opinion, I believe we can have a really successful season.”"

Michael Stewart, who has represented Scotland on international level and had spent a portion of his youth career at Rangers, has now decided to slam Ojo for his comments. Having played for both Edinburgh rivals, Hearts and Hibernian, he is no stranger to Scottish rivalries himself. In his column in The Scottish Sun, Stewart wrote:

"“Ojo’s boast that they are better than Celtic did his team-mates no favours whatsoever. On the one hand I get it. He’s just a young kid on loan from Liverpool enjoying himself up here.“But claiming your side are the best in Scotland before a ball is kicked is one thing. Repeating it — even if it’s something he happens to genuinely believe — was crazy.”"

Rangers are currently enjoying a good phase of form, winning six Premiership games on the trot after the defeat at the hands of Celtic and find themselves two points ahead of their Glasgow rivals at the top of the table. Although a 2-1 loss against Young Boys last Thursday in the Europa League must have brought them back to Earth.
