Jack Hendry has struggled to find a regular place in the Celtic first-team since signing with the Glasgow side in early 2018. But now Celtic boss, Neil Lennon, has dropped a huge hint over the future of the 24-year-old centre-back at the club.

The Scottish Champions are one of the busiest sides in world football, fighting till the end every season in three domestic competitions while also going through a grueling qualification phase just to compete in Europe. As a result, it is no wonder that Celtic have struggled with injuries this season with a number of stars spending time on the sidelines.

One of the biggest positions of concern has been the centre of defence, where Nir Bitton, Kris Ajer, Jozo Simunovic and Hatem Abd Elhamed have all picked up injuries at one point or another. And the biggest miss is surely going to be Jozo Simunovic as the Croatian will not feature again this year.

Combine that with the fact that both Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed are just makeshift central defenders, and the Hoops seem to have a real problem at the back. And this might have a thrown a lifeline to one of Celtic’s forgotten men, Jack Hendry.

It looked like Hendry had a huge future when he joined the Hoops in January 2018 under Brendan Rodgers and has even represented the Scottish national team on three occasions. But he has failed to nail down a spot in the Celtic first team since then.

But Neil Lennon has dropped a huge hint that the Scot might still have a future at Parkhead. Speaking to The Scottish Sun, the Celtic boss said:

"“It’s good to have that cover. Obviously Jozo is a big miss.“We’ve also got Jack Hendry who is playing tonight in a development game so hopefully he’ll get up to speed quickly as well.”"

While this does not guarantee anything for the defender’s future, he can at least take solace in the fact that the manager sees him as a potential back-up if one more of his centre-backs go down. This is more than what he could have asked for when trying to force a move away from the club in the summer.
