After a sensational start to the season a new debate has arisen. Who is the best player in Scotland? Here is a hint, you have two choices: Odsonne Edouard and James Forrest.

At times, Odsonne Edouard and James Forrest have carried Celtic to victory this season. Take this week’s 3-1 win against Kilmarnock for example when both of them led the charge when the Hoops were 1-0 down. Now the question is, who is the better player?

Let us just go over some of the facts real fast before anyone jumps to a conclusion. And please remember, the fact that this debate about who can be the best player in Scotland can even exist is a phenomenal testament to the quality of talent that Celtic has been able to produce and sign.

Odsonne Edouard:

French Eddy has been ELECTRIC this season. With over six goals already to his name, and another five assists, it is hard to argue about his contributions. Add another two goals to his line this season for his national team appearances and now the discussion becomes about just how good he can get.

Edouard was brought to Celtic to score goals. His knack for doing so is what prompted Celtic boss Neil Lennon to keep him around on a permanent deal. The bhoy has not disappointed, and his growth has been a real highlight for this club.

James Forrest:

The reigning Scottish Player of the Year always seems to have something up his sleeve when the club needs it most. Those tricks always seem to be late in the match to help equalize or put his team ahead, and sometimes it’s an early goal to get the momentum started.

Forrest has seven goals and six assists on the season so far. The manner in which he has scored those goals, as well as the situations in which he was able to do it may matter more than the goals themselves. Forrest has performed well on the European stage this season scoring two goals against CFR Cluj as well as AIK. Forrest is a large reason Celtic has found success thus far in the Europa League.

 The Verdict:

Currently, the decision is weighing in the favor of James Forrest. Edouard surely has the most raw talent of the two, and with continued improvement the title of “Best Player in Scotland” will soon be in hand. Until then, James Forrest has earned this early season honor.
