Neil Lennon makes decision on Scott Sinclair’s Celtic future
Scott Sinclair has found minutes hard to come by under Neil Lennon this season, who has preferred youth over experience throughout the campaign. And now the manager has made a decision over the Englishman’s future at Celtic.
It is safe to say that Scott Sinclair has enjoyed three spectacular seasons at Parkhead since joining the club from Aston Villa in 2016. The winger has scored 60 goals in just 153 appearances for Celtic while also winning a treble in each of his three seasons at the club. A permanent fixture in Brendan Rodgers’ side, Sinclair was very often the talisman for the Hoops before the manager left for Leicester City and Neil Lennon came back for a second stint as Celtic manager.
But with the rise of Mikey Johnston, the veteran has found it hard to get into the first-team this season and has even been completely left out of the match squad on a number of occasions. Naturally, a lot of reports linked him with a move away from Celtic Park but with the transfer window come and gone, it is clear that he is staying with the Scottish champions at least until January.
Some fans have found it hard to digest the fact that a winger who has scored over 15 goals in all of his seasons in Scottish football has fallen behind Lewis Morgan in the pecking order, and been left out in the cold by Neil Lennon. The manager though has not budged from his decision till now with Lennon playing less than 60 minutes in the 2019/20 season.
Speaking to the media about his decision to axe Sinclair from the team, Lennon said:
"“It’s understandable if Sinclair feels put out.“We don’t want to treat him badly because he’s a senior pro.“It’s just that he’s finding it difficult right now to get into the squad. I can’t pick six wingers.“It’s been tough for Scott. We have a lot of options on the wings.“We look a threat. We have good pace in the team, something which Mikey [Michael Johnston] brings to us.“Our wide men have been playing so well and we’ve been scoring goals.”"
There could be some good news on the way for Sinclair though as it appears that he could soon be back in the manager’s plans. Following Mikey Johnston and Marian Shved injuries away on international duty, Celtic are a little short of options on the wings and this could serve as the perfect oppurtunity for Sinclair to make his presence felt in the team.
The English winger has continued to work hard and show a great attitude during his time out of the team. And according to reports in the Football Insider, Neil Lennon is now about to extend an olive branch to Sinclair and reward him with a move back into the first-team fold.
Celtic fans will be hoping that Sinclair is able to make the most of this oppurtunity and be at his deadly best if and when he finally gets the chance to feature for Celtic again in the future.
